Hit With A Last-Minute Move? How To Get Through The Process With Minimal Stress
Under the best of circumstances, you'd have a couple of months to plan for a big move. Unfortunately, you don't always get the best circumstances. Sometimes, you get hit with a last-minute move that you just aren't prepared for. If that's happened to you, don't panic. You can still get through the move with a minimal amount of stress. To help you survive your last-minute move, here are four tips for you to utilize.
Recruit Some Friends
When you've got a few months to plan a move, you can usually get through it without extra help. However, last-minute moves aren't quite as easy to maneuver. Now that you're dealing with a last-minute move, you're going to need to recruit some friends. In fact, you'll need to recruit as many as you can get. Your friends will serve as the labor to help you through the process. They can also serve as moral support when you feel yourself getting stressed out.
Delegate the Responsibilities
Once you have your friends gathered, you'll need to delegate the responsibilities. Don't feel like you need to do everything for yourself, or all at once. Instead, make a list of the things that need to be done, and divide the responsibilities among your friends. For instance, put one group in charge of the packing, while another group takes care of the cleaning. It's also a good idea to put someone in charge of the meals and the snacks. That way, you don't need to stop in the middle of the work to get food for your crew. If you have kids, put someone in charge of them.
Rent a Dumpster
When you're packing for a last-minute move, you're going to want to clean as you go along. That way, once everything is packed up and ready to go, you'll just be left with a final tidying up before you close up the house and leave. To make the cleanup easier, rent a dumpster for a few days. Pay in advance so that all you have to do is fill the dumpster up and leave. The dumpster company will come and pick up the dumpster, even if you're no longer in town.
Hire a Moving Company
When you're dealing with a last-minute move, you'll need to find a moving company that's available on short notice. Start with your local moving companies. There are some companies that offer services specifically as last minute movers. You may find that they're more flexible, and able to adjust to your last-minute move.
